Installation and maintenance

Installation, commissioning, inspection, storage, and troubleshooting guidance for agricultural hydraulic cylinders.

Before installation

Confirm the drawing, clean the work area, block and depressurize the machine, inspect mounts and pins, cap open lines, and verify that the hydraulic fluid and seals are compatible. Replace damaged hoses and distorted brackets rather than transferring the defect to the new cylinder.

Install without forcing alignment

Pins should enter without using hydraulic pressure to pull mounts together. Check that the cylinder can articulate through the full motion and that ports and hoses remain clear.

Commission at low energy

Cycle slowly at low pressure, bleed air according to the machine procedure, watch the hose sweep, and stop for noise, heat, binding, or leakage. Raise pressure and load in steps while checking mounts.

Routine inspection

Inspect rod condition, leakage, pins, bushings, welds, hoses, guards, paint, and drift. Clean contamination before retracting an exposed rod. Record trends rather than waiting for a sudden failure.

Seasonal storage

Where the machine design permits, store with the rod retracted, protect ports and rods, maintain corrosion protection, and keep the machine supported mechanically. Follow fluid and filter maintenance instructions.

Troubleshooting

Slow motion can result from low flow, pressure loss, internal leakage, binding, contamination, air, valve faults, or load changes. Drift can come from the cylinder or valves. Isolate causes using safe blocking, pressure measurement, and the machine service procedure.

Safety

Never work under a load supported only by hydraulics. Depressurize stored energy, use rated supports, and follow lockout and machine-manufacturer instructions.
